As I was doing my daily devotional, the passage written by Paul to Timothy was part of it. By Providence, I had the opportunity to film a fellow Brother making a short video where this was alluded to.
I began thinking about what Paul was saying and, at the risk of being trolled and flamed, I must say that I have a different opinion about how his statements are interpreted today.
At the time of the writings of Paul's letter, there was no New Testament. That is historical fact.
Putting that in context, it is plain that scripture was what we call the Old Testament.
Let's look at what he actually said (at least translated/transliterated in to English).
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
(2Ti 3:16-17)
My point is *NOT* that New Testament is not scripture.
My point *is* that in context, for the recipient of a personal letter, Paul was encouraging Timothy to walk in the light that he had been shown and had known since his youth.
The beauty of it is that it *DOES* apply to what we know as the New Testament.
It just did not apply AT THAT TIME.
